BEN & JERRY'S SCOOP SHOPS TO DISH OUT NEAR REAL-TIME SALES DATA VIA MICROS RES3000, ECLIPSE POS TERMINALS AND mymicros.net
Columbia, MD — February 24, 2004 — MICROS Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:MCRS), a leading provider of information technology solutions
for the hospitality industry, and Ben & Jerry's Homemade, Inc., the
socially-conscious manufacturer of super- premium frozen desserts, have
signed a major account agreement for the purchase and installation of
the MICROS RES3000, combined with hardware and the easily accessible
and powerful mymicros.net business intelligence portal.
Ben & Jerry's selected MICROS for its ability to provide near
real-time, actionable data, security, durability and ease of use from a
field of 16 competitors. To support an aggressive franchise network
growth objective, Ben & Jerry's will purchase 300 software licenses
and 300 Eclipse Workstations for the MICROS RES3000 system over the
next two years. Scoop Shop owners and Ben & Jerry's
Burlington-based Retail Operations team will be able to view and
analyze sales data, labor costs and other sales related information in
near real-time through the mymicros.net portal from any location,
reducing the information lag from as much as six weeks to under fifteen
minutes.
"Each of our Scoop Shops manages about 7,000-10,000 transactions a
month during peak ice cream season. The mymicros.net portal will allow
us to view these transactions and our business in a totally different
way," Will Patten, Director of Retail Operations for Ben & Jerry's,
stated. "Instead of reacting to "old" data, we'll receive fresh,
real-time data, which we can collect and view anywhere in the world.
This immediacy of information permits us to make better decisions
faster and gives our valued franchisees real tools for success."
"MICROS is extremely pleased to be the chosen partner for Ben &
Jerry's," noted Alan Hayman, Executive Vice President, Restaurant Sales
and Strategies for MICROS. "MICROS is able to offer Ben & Jerry's a
cost effective solution for its operators and franchisees who
experience widely varying transaction volume depending on the season.
And with mymicros.net, they now have near real time data to better
manage their operations."
