About Manchu WOK

Manchu WOK was founded in 1980 as a single store in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. The company grew over the next nine years into a national chain offering consistently high quality Chinese cuisine in a fast food environment. During this period, the chain focused on opening locations in high traffic locations such as regional shopping centres and high-density office complexes. The concept readily caught on with landlords and consumers. The chain grew rapidly through the 1980s, expanding to Toronto, across Canada and into the United States.

In 1989, under new ownership, expansion continued, particularly in the United States. Throughout the 1990s, Manchu WOK successfully expanded into non-traditional locations such as universities and airports. In 2003 and 2004, the chain put their mark on the international map with the opening of two new locations one in Okinawa Japan and the other on the island of Guam.

The current owners of Manchu WOK, Ken Fowler Enterprises, Cafe de Coral and the senior management of Manchu WOK, purchased the company in September 2000. Approximately 75% of the 200 Manchu WOK locations are franchised. The chain's reputation continues to grow as a menu innovator specializing in fast and fresh Chinese cuisine, ranging in style from Cantonese to Szechwan. Manchu WOK plans continued expansion, particularly in street-front, non-traditional and international locations.
